Tnew south side patio is now twice as large as it used to be.
Our newest board member, Ken Schmillen, led this upgrade this spring, and he received plenty of help from our other directors, Jen Micheletti and Rick Lotz.
Previously, the patio of the Adlai E. Stevenson House only extended to the edge of the house, and it was uneven.
Starting in mid-April, Ken began tearing up the existing patio. Underneath, he found the old cistern, which was used to collect rainwater.

Work continued with laying the foundation for new brick.

The brick used for the new patio was partially donated (thank you, Ken and Rick) and also partially reclaimed. Grass had taken over a driveway that wound its way from the sidewalk back to the garage on the property.

By Memorial Day, the team had finished laying the new patio, complete with limestone corners.

Want to check it out? Drop by an open house during the 2nd and 4th Sundays from 1-3 p.m., May through October!
